Your customers or website visitors are a community. They need to exchange ideas openly, or to make recommendations, and you need to know what they are saying.
Perhaps your website has been designed to support a specific community. People need to be able to create new forums or discussion groups to express their views, support each other or provide valuable feedback to you, the website owner.
The internet is an excellent medium to do this, but realistically, moderation is often required. Support discussion groups, but do so responsibly.
moderated forums
A moderated forum is one in which Admin (the website owner) can monitor the content within the forum. The level of control is dependant on the types of users in the forums and the requirements of the website owner.
groups
A group is a topic presented to forum users for discussion. This can be decided by Admin, or can be proposed by forum users.
Admin can have the capability to approve or disapprove a group or thread. The website owner can elect whether to have new group or thread proposals emailed to them, prior to publishing. This is done via an online Admin Panel.
threads
A thread is a response to a group, or topic. This can be open, or moderated.
the options & benefits
A forum can be wholly open to the general public, for registered members only, or read–only access for all unregistered visitors. This can be specified as global, or only within certain sections of the forums. Admin can determine whether to allow users to propose groups or respond to threads via registration, or free access.
Forums can be useful to website owners in terms of collecting user information or feedback, or they could serve as a facility to members or non–members.
